Paramus Catholic has a lot to be proud of following its enormous leap in the DigitalSports National Football Rankings after taking down state rivals Don Bosco Prep on October 10.

The Paladins entered the game ranked 30th in the nation their 21-14 victory bumped them up 26 spots to 4th and the top ranked team in New Jersey.  Bosco, on the other hand, dropped from 4th to 10th after suffering its first loss of the season.

Getting things going early, Paramus scored the only touchdown of the first quarter.  Both had a trip to the endzone in the second quarter; however Paramus missed its PAT, leading to a 13-7 halftime advantage.

Due to excellent defenses boasted by both teams, neither squad scored in the third.  Early in the fourth, Don Bosco’s Malik Bakker found the endzone on a two-yard touchdown after being stopped on two previous attempts.  This gave the Ironmen their first lead of the game at 14-13.

Paramus came right back with a seven-play 82-yard scoring drive.  Willy Hansen led the way, first with a 42-yard rush followed by a 20-yard touchdown pass to Marquis Spence a few plays later.  The Paladins then completed a two-point conversion, giving them a 21-14 lead.

Despite numerous attempts at another breakthrough, Bosco was halted by Paramus’ superb defense, led by the No. 1 defensive end in the country, Rashan Gary.

Willy Hansen finished the day with 114 passing yards and another 48 on the ground.  Ahmed Thomas, who scored Paramus’ first two touchdowns, finished with 67 rushing yards.

After a hard earned victory, Paramus has received a well-deserved boost in the rankings.  At 6-0, Paramus looks to continue its way up, having now entered the Top 5 teams in the nation.
