Two of New Jersey’s finest faced off on Halloween in a great matchup. Paramus Catholic, ranked 4th in the DigitalSports National Football Rankings and 1st in New Jersey, traveled to face DePaul, ranked 61st in the nation and 6th in the state.
Paramus struck in the first quarter with three touchdowns, while shutting only the Spartans. DePaul took the momentum in the second with the 13 points, sending the Paladins into halftime with an 8-point lead.
Racking in other 20 points compared to DePaul’s seven, Paramus took a healthy lead in the third quarter. After a scoreless fourth, the Paladins won 41-20 in a well played match.
Willy Hansen tossed three touchdowns, coming from 12-of-26 completions for 204 yards. The senior quarterback also rushed the ball 11 times for 69 yards and a score. Two of his touchdown passes were to junior Donald Stewart, who ended up with three catches for 87 yards.
On 21 carries, Ahmad Thomas earned 95 yards and a well deserved trip to the endzone.
A big part of Paramus’ success came from the defense. The Paladins recorded five sacks, three of were from Joseph Baccas who kept the DePaul quarterback under constant pressure.
Now the Paladins have one final game remaining in the regular season. Undefeated at 8-0, Paramus’ final challenge comes against 54th ranked St. Joseph Regional. The two teams meet at 2pm on November 8, both hoping to bring the momentum of a big win to take into the playoffs.
